Netflix, Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max, and other streaming services are adding new releases and returning series throughout the month. Here are some notable movies and TV shows to put on your watchlist.

1. VisionQuest

Genre: Superhero, science fiction

Marvel fans have another reason to return to the world of WandaVision with VisionQuest. The series continues the story surrounding Vision and explores questions of identity, memory, and what it means to be human.

Its science-fiction themes and connections to Marvel's wider storytelling make it a title to consider for viewers who enjoy superhero mysteries and stories that go beyond traditional action.

Best for: Marvel fans and science-fiction viewers.

Where to check: Disney+.

2. The Diplomat — Season 4

Genre: Political drama, thriller

Political tension returns with The Diplomat. The series follows diplomats navigating international crises, complicated alliances, and personal relationships while trying to manage situations that can have consequences far beyond a single country.

Season 4 is a notable October release for viewers who enjoy intelligent dialogue, high-pressure decisions, and political drama rather than nonstop action.

Best for: Fans of political thrillers and suspenseful dramas.

Where to check: Netflix.

3. Crystal Lake

Genre: Horror, thriller

October is the perfect month for horror fans, and Crystal Lake is one of the season's notable genre releases. The series expands the world associated with the Friday the 13th franchise, exploring the story surrounding Pamela Voorhees.

Its connection to an established horror universe makes it an option for viewers who enjoy suspense, dark storytelling, and the history behind familiar horror characters.

Best for: Horror enthusiasts and franchise fans.

Where to check: Peacock.

4. The Invite

Genre: Comedy, drama

For viewers who prefer relationship-focused storytelling, The Invite offers a different mood from October's horror and thriller releases. Directed by Olivia Wilde, the film brings together comedy and drama through the complications of human relationships.

Best for: Viewers who enjoy contemporary comedy-dramas.

Where to check: HBO Max; confirm the release date and availability in your region.

5. Minions & Monsters

Genre: Animation, comedy, family

Animated adventures remain a popular choice for families and viewers looking for lighter entertainment. Minions & Monsters is among the October releases to watch, bringing the familiar Minions into a story inspired by Hollywood and monster movies.

Its comedic approach makes it a potential choice for viewers who want something less intense during the Halloween season.

Best for: Families, animation fans, and comedy lovers.

Where to check: Peacock, with availability depending on region.

How to Choose What to Watch

With so many releases arriving across different platforms, choosing a show can be almost as difficult as finding time to watch it. Start with the genre you enjoy most.

  • For superhero action and science fiction: Put VisionQuest on your list.
  • For political suspense: Explore The Diplomat Season 4.
  • For Halloween horror: Consider Crystal Lake.
  • For relationship-focused drama: Look into The Invite.
  • For animation and comedy: Check out Minions & Monsters.

These are starting points rather than a universal ranking. Your ideal choice depends on your preferred genre, age suitability, and the streaming services available to you.

Check Streaming Availability Before You Watch

A title's release date does not always mean it will be available everywhere at the same time. Streaming libraries differ by country, subscription plan, and licensing arrangements. Some releases may arrive on one platform in the United States while appearing later or on a different service elsewhere.

Before subscribing to a new service, check its official catalog for your country. You can also review the film or series' official page for age ratings, trailers, and release information.

Final Thoughts

October 2026 offers a varied entertainment lineup, from Marvel-related science fiction and political drama to horror and animated comedy. VisionQuest, The Diplomat Season 4, Crystal Lake, The Invite, and Minions & Monsters are all worth checking out if their genres match your interests.

The best choice is the one that fits your mood. Pick a genre, check local availability, and add a new movie or series to your weekend watchlist.
